amsterdam: vinkeles at the dylan hotel

Recently two of our favorite foodie friends visited us in Amsterdam.  It was the perfect occasion to try out a few of the city’s best dining establishments.  The Michelin-starred Vinkeles in The Dylan hotel did not disappoint...

We opened the evening with gin and vodka martinis in the hotel’s beautifully designed bar where the bartender schooled us on Ketel One’s Dutch heritage and the origin of gin/jenever.  In the restaurant, a starter of potato froth, crème and a shocking amount of good caviar began the chef’s tasting menu.  Wine and martinis were flowing and the courses kept coming, including some incredible squab.

Desserts were perhaps a bit disappointing- a decidedly tart yogurt deconstruction which pleased some at the table but left me wanting more sugar.  While the food was phenomenal the highlight of the evening for some may have been the fact that we shared the restaurant with Little Britain star David Walliams and his Dutch supermodel wife, Lara Stone.

The Dylan is by far the prettiest hotel in town.

And this guy was our excellent server for the evening.
