bali: the oberoi

In a magical, secluded location (yet a quick taxi to the bars and restaurants of Seminyak) The Oberoi, Bali is a green idyll, draped in flowers- jasmine blossoms covering the paths, hibiscus on the pillows, a host of other gently fragant blooms on every bush...

The resort spreads out along a wide sandy beach with turquoise waves just big enough to be fun and almost big enough to scare you.  The whole compound smells of flowers, firewood and incense, and is remarkably peaceful. One hears only the sound of crashing waves, trickling water, traditional music for the evening dance or soft, rhythmic, trance-inducing Balinese drumming.
The spa is set in the midst of a lilypad pond surrounded by beautifully manicured jungle.  With only two rooms, each with space for one couple, make sure to book as soon as you arrive for a transportive Balinese massage.  Order the Nasi Goreng at the beachside restaurant afterwards.

Villas are private and have every amenity, but they are a just a tiny bit dated.
