capri, italy: j.k. place

The J.K. Place Capri exemplifies what a small hotel should be. The stylish décor earned a recent profile in Lonny magazine, but what those gorgeous pictures can’t convey is the luscious scent of ocean breeze, native lemons and Mediteraneo from Carthusia wafting through the lobby...
Books, photos and objets scattered about the lobby hint at Capri’s star-studded (Jackie Onassis, Marlene Dietrich, Ingrid Bergman, Graham Greene), jet-set provenance. Superbly-trained staff are always unobtrusively present. Our suite, (room 20) overlooked Marina Grande and the Bay of Naples. Its large terrace was perfect for secluded sunbathing and it caught the strong autumn sunlight until late in the afternoon. The hotel’s restaurant is excellent; we ate massive multi-course lunches there every day- Caprese salads, inventive pasta dishes with local ingredients, fresh-caught grilled fish and scampi. My only suggestion for improvement: wider beachtowels.
