new york city: shellac at jin soon

You read about nail guru Jin Soon in Vogue, Elle and every other fat, fashion glossy.  She is the go-to quote source for nail trends.  Her salon empire has expanded from an East Village shop to outposts in the West Village and Upper East Side.  So, I had high expectations for my appointment for a Shellac manicure and pedicure...
I left disappointed.  The West Village salon feels disorganized and the scuffed walls are in desperate need of a new coat of paint.  The pedicure stations were impossibly uncomfortable.  While my nail technician was sweet and skilled, my Shellac manicure barely lasted three days before the first major chip occurred on my thumbnail. The rest of the polish lasted for about 11-12 days, much better than regular polish, but not the full two weeks advertised.

The Shellac pedicure, however, lasted and lasted, almost a month!
