yountville, ca: bardessono

California wine country is only about an hour away from San Francisco, but of course, with all the wine tasting you'll be doing, you'll want to have a room close by. We stayed at Bardessono, a beautifully landscaped "green" resort in Yountville, a stone's throw from some of the country's best restaurants- French Laundry, Bouchon and Bottega...
The resort is a quiet oasis of flowering trees, trickling water, sunlit stone and excellent food.  Service was very good, so good the concierge was able to secure us a last minute table at French Laundry.  After an emergency trip to Barney's to pick up a suit for the Mr. (unexpected dress code!) we walked to the restaurant through it's famous gardens. Once we polished off the tasting menu, accompanied by excellent bottles of champagne, Hestan chardonnay (new favorite!) and a luscious bottle of California red, Bardessono sent a driver to spare us the 100m walk back to our room.
